2010 Annual Parish Meeting

The Son Rise Parish met January 18-20 ,2010 for the first time by use of internet by using postings on its website ,read ahead materials given to all churches the week prior so that each church could review them on prior Sunday ,e-mails and phone calls. This was an innovative response to busy schedules ,travel distances and other conflicts of time that did not allow for a physical meeting. The very nature of an Independent Church Parish and its founding principles tend towards fellowship and worship events but not business meetings.

The accomplishments furnished by the churches for 2009 that they lift up in praise included:

Baring Church: They had a huge Reunion that was greatly attended for the 116th year since the first church was planted in Baring. They have great Tuesday Morning Chapels, devotions ,prayer ,music and fellowship that are attended by many from out side their church and travel some distance to be part of this unique spiritual fellowship. Bro Maynard who is the church Sr Pastor leads a team of 5 pastors which is the most in any Parish Church. They have many friendship ties betwen community and county churches ,food, clothing and nursing home ministries. They always have a float in the Knox County Corn Festival .  Last year the float truck came from another parish church with riders from 4 parish churches in support of the Baring Church. They are a proud supporter of Operation Christmas Child Mission and Mike & Pam Blaines Memphis PRC.

Illinois Bend Church : The church had a Lords Acre sale to really be an evangelism event more than a money maker and it was a great success. The churches annual Homecoming was carried on TV, Internet ,Newspaper ,Radio and by the word of messenger for one of the larget crowds they have ever had. They hold a monthly Wednesday fellowship which has brought the church closer together in bible study ,music and prayer. This year they had a Christmas program rather than a night before event and it was so successful they plan to continue it.They are a proud supporter of Operation Christmas Child and Kirksville PRC

East Center Church: The church has new members ,new Baptisms, an Ordaination and a growing Ministry. They hold an every other Wednesdy night fellowship and Bible Study. Most all Sundays the church will gather at Pizza Hut for fellowship and  a group meal. The church held a Shrove Tuesday event and a Christmas program event for the first time and both were very successful.Ths was the first year that the church sponsored Operation Christmas Child and they gathered 46 boxes

Downing Church: The church has a special wednesday night bible study that sometimes is in the church or in homes. The church has grown closer together in the last year and gone through tough times. The church has many friendship connections between community and county churches ,food ,
nursing home clothing ministries. Pastor Walter hopes to begin a Sunday Night Service and also hold a Revival .The Parish is invited to  come to the Revival. They support the Downing Apprecation Days,County food pantry and have a special nursing home minsitry.

There was motion made and 2nd to change role title of “Parish Senior Pastor ” to “Parish Moderator” to more closely fit  the Parish Mission.
The churches ,E.C. B.C. ,I. B. and D.C. voted for the measure.  There were no opposing votes

After discussion , a motion was made to set the term of the Parish Moderator to 2 years ( not 3). The churches E.C. ,B.C, I.B. and D.C. voted yes. There were no opposing votes

There was a motion made to physically meet with all churches together in one place on an annual rotating basis betwen churches.
That motion died for lack of a 2nd after 2 days .

The churches were asked to review the 2000 founding principles of the Son Rise Parish that are located in orginal documents and website (copied below)

“About Son Rise Parish

We are a fellowship of independent churches located through out Northeast Missouri. Our brief view concerning our organization is summed up as…. “unity in the essentials of our faith and in all else freedom”. Many denominations ,associations or conventions of churches are organized as a “Top Down”  structure but Son Rise Parish is a “Bottom Up” structure with the member churches in a business sense owning equal shares of the Parish. The Parish makes no rules interferring with the local church or collecting any monies from the churches. The Parish can only accept ,decline or remove church or pastor membership. The main purpose of Son Rise Parish is to provide fellowship connections, prayer and  spiritual support ,pastoral support ,trading and sharing of resources ,missions, evangelism ,joint ministry opportunities and shared experience competencies that can assist each other.
Our Overall Mission in Christ is;
“Do all the good you can,
In all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can” ( Rev John Wesley Circa 1700,s)

N.H. Church asked the question about the Moderators job description and who could serve. The moderator responded that the job description came out of the limited and simple vision ,role and function of the Parish. The last 10 years have defined the limited role and its sucess is by the number of churches that are now open.  The Parish has been operating 10 years with only one church leaving the Parish and that was Renick which is now closed. The above John Wesley quote from the Son Rise Parish Mission  is in the By Laws of New Hope Methodist Reformed Church  ,Baring Church ,Faith Methodist Reformed Church /Illinois Bend Community Church and Renick Community Church.Even without that quote in any documents at East Center and Downing Church they have certainly practiced it in their faith journey.
The implication is that besides serving as the mission statement of the  Parish it is also a farly good job description of Parish Moderator. There were no other Parish Comments and no one responded to the call to volunteer to draft a job description.

D.C. nominated John Davison to serve as Parish Moderator. After 12 hours there were no other nominations and B.C. moved to close nominations and elect by acclamation, it was 2nd by D.C.  After 24 hours Voting Yes were E.C. ,D.C. ,I.B. and B.C.  with None voting No

There are still openings for those who would like to sponsor parish wide ,mens, womens, childrens ,couples ,teens and other ministries.

The Moderators Report:

We remembered the contributions of Pastor Roy ,Pastor Glen ,Pastor Harold and their families.
Considering the perpetual nature of the Parish and with your permission I have asked Bro Maynard to serve as Moderator Pro-tem  & after prayer he has accepted. What a blessing for all.  A wise person once said that good leaders surround themselves with folks smarter than them. I’ve asked the Ordained Pastors to serve on a Steering-Fellowship Parish Committee with Maynard (Baring) Jim (New Hope) Walter (Downing)Donnie ( East Center) and myself (Illinois Bend).
Thankyou all  for the opportunity to serve the Lord by serving you. My phone ,my ear,e-mail and prayers are always availble to you. As The Lord Blessed Abram in Genesis 12 :2 ,3 may he bless HIS Son Rise Parish of churches ,peoples, families and communities accordinglPrevious message

The meeting was closed

History

The Son Rise Parish was loosely formed by churches New Hope and Faith Methodist Reformed Churches in 2000  . Later in 2000 another church plant ,the Renick Community Church was added and in 2001 the Community Christian Church of Downing Inc.was admitted. In 2002 East Center Community Church Inc. joined the Parish. In 2003 the closed Baring Community Congregational Christian Church Inc was re-started  and Incorporated as the Baring Community Church Inc. and also as a Parish member. In late 2003 the Renick Community Church left the Parish and eventually closed. In July 2006 the Faith Methodist Reformed Church sold its building in La Plata and moved to the closed Illinois Bend Christian Church located west of La Plata. In Sept 2006 the Faith Methodist Reformed Church Inc.was officially renamed the Illinois Bend Community Church Inc. and fully merged both previous churches into one. As of September 2006 there were 5 member churches of the Parish. In 2007 individuals not belonging to any parish church were now included in the Parish Directory as “Friends” of the parish.  In 2009 a ”Friendship church” status was applied to denominational or aligned churches as well as to Home Churches who wish to be in fellowship with the Parish activities. They are not listed in the directory and have no voice or vote on Parish Issues. The Parish may share pastors and resouces as possible but will not attempt to influence connected churches into joining the Parish or our friendship churches are not to influence our independent churches into leaving the Parish. In 2010 the Parish changed the title of the Parish “Senior Pastor” to “Parish Moderator”  to more closely reflect the spirit ,mission, limits ,helper and  role of friend to the local independent church .
